Job Summary

Netrias is seeking to develop and deploy technology to support term harmonization and curation. We are seeking paid Software Engineer Interns to contribute to the development of this technology.

This is a research and development role; therefore, prospective interns should be comfortable spending a portion of their time in self-directed research, including by reading academic papers, proposing solutions to challenges arising from sparse or messy data, and developing prototypes and proofs of concept of never-before-tried techniques. Interns will also work closely with software engineers and AI research scientists at Netrias in order to support existing research projects, model building, and software development.

At the conclusion of this internship, the candidate will have developed a portfolio of software engineering work in support of data curation research and development. The intern will work with a supervisor to identify and execute an individual project and write a short white paper summarizing research findings and software developed.

Qualified candidates will:

  • Support the design, development, and implementation of new features for term harmonization and curation workflows
  • The scope of work spans backend, frontend, and cloud/DevOps deployment
  • Support the performance of requirements analysis, system architecture design, and code quality reviews
  • Support the hardening and deployment of models developed for term harmonization and curation
  • Support the improvement, deployment, and maintenance of infrastructure to ingest and process customer data


  • Undergraduate or graduate student in computer science or related field
  • Proficiency in the object-oriented programming languages Java or Python
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • U.S. Citizenship


  • Experience with bioinformatics tools, pipelines, or –omics data analysis
  • DevOps/deployment experience across multiple target customers/platforms
  • Continuous Integration / Continuous Development practices
  • Familiarity with JavaScript frameworks (React, D3, Angular, etc.)
  • Familiarity with containerized environments (Kubernetes, Docker Swarm, Mesos, etc.)
  • Familiarity with AWS infrastructure
